With Memorial Day marking the start of the summer season we break out the seersucker and rosè and take a look at all the exciting live events that pair perfectly with a sun-soaked day on the beach.

10,000 Maniacs at The Stephen Talkhouse
In ranks with the greatest rock groups of the 80s and 90s, 10,000 Maniacs kick off the summer concert series at the iconic Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett. Contemporaries of R.E.M, The Police, and The Smiths, 10,000 Maniacs helped define the sound of Generation X with their pop-conscious and lush, alternative melodies.

With hits “These Are the Days” and “Trouble Me” and their emotional cover of “Because The Night,” the group, which formed in Jamestown, New York, has maintained critical acclaim and a devoted fan base for their over-30-year history, with lead vocalist Mary Ramsey at the helm for the last 20 years. Their album In My Tribe was not only a Billboard smash but garnered them a place on Rolling Stone’s’ Top Albums of the 80s list. This legendary group, a leader in defining contemporary college rock, is not to be missed and is sure to offer a warm welcome to summer. Audra McDonald at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center
The most decorated Tony Award-winning actress of all time, the incomparable Audra McDonald performs an exclusive one-night concert event at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. In addition to her award-winning turns in beloved productions such as Carousel, Ragtime, and Porgy & Bess, McDonald has an illustrious film and television career including an Emmy Award-winning performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill (a role she originated on Broadway). She also starred as Madame Garderobe in the recent blockbuster live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

Here, she takes the stage in a concert featuring her soaring soprano as she performs songs from her celebrated stage career and her canon as a recording artist. From the stages of Broadway to opera and Hollywood film, Audra McDonald is one of the greatest living artists whose mastery transcends definition. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the luminous six-time Tony Award-winning icon in her element. (Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, 76 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978)

Lukas Graham at The Surf Lodge
With his laid-back and soulful music, the Danish pop-folk singer Lukas Graham and his band provide the perfect soundtrack to a summer evening, and there is perhaps no better venue to take them in than The Surf Lodge. Reared in Christiana, the bohemian enclave of Copenhagen, the artist cites everything from The Beatles to Al Green to Dr. Dre as influences on his music.

His breakout hits “7 Years” and “Drunk in the Morning” capture his sound, at once singular and effortless, drawing from his childhood, family, friends, and worldview. In addition to R&B and Funk, his vocals are also influenced by his years singing with the Copenhagen Boys Choir, creating a truly unique aesthetic. Paired with the stunning ocean views The Surf Lodge provides, an evening with Lukas Graham is a quintessential summer experience. (The Surf Lodge, 183 Edgemere Street, Montauk, NY 11954)

The Head and the Heart at The Surf Lodge
The Seattle-bred indie-folk group The Head and the Heart brings its sweeping West Coast sound to Montauk’s Surf Lodge on Saturday, June 4th. The group, whose influences include Americana, country-rock, and classic Beatles-style pop, formed in 2009 when its members met by chance at an open mic night at Seattle’s famed Conor Byrne Pub. It was a mutual love of music and passion for songwriting that truly brought the six-member ensemble together.

Following a hiatus in 2014 due to exhaustion from touring, the group re-formed, meeting in a bungalow in Stinson Beach, California, where they collaborated on their newest effort, the brighter and universally melodic album Stinson Beach Sessions. Singles such as “Shake,” “City of Angels,” and “Rhythm & Blues” highlight the group’s artistry in creating multi-layered soundscapes that are at once inspirational and soaring. The group’s music has also been featured in How I Met Your Mother, Sons of Anarchy, and Silver Linings Playbook. (The Surf Lodge, 183 Edgemere Street, Montauk, NY 11954)
