Summer Lovin’

A Range of Romantic Rendezvous

Who among us hasn’t pined for a summer romance, complete with that tingly feeling in your stomach as you hold hands on the Ferris Wheel (or is that the heights?). With the long, lazy days and sultry summer nights, it’s a perfect season to give in to love. And there’s no more romantic setting for your summer fling than the East End. Whether your love is a fresh affair, just beginning to bloom, or has been evergreen for years, make this season a charming reason to refresh your romance. Here are three of our favorite tailor-made date nights, perfect for bringing some spark to your summer in the Hamptons.

ADVENTURE AT THE SHORETake to the sky – and hold hands! – with a tandem ride at Montauk Parasail at Star Island Yacht Club (59 Star Island Rd., 631.377.1831). Featuring bird’s-eye views of the famed Montauk Lighthouse, Gardiner’s Bay, and Block Island, a parasail is both romantic and exciting. Flights start at just $75 per person, and you can choose a day cruise to feel the sun on your skin beneath your massive sail or set the mood with a sunset cruise, both offered daily.

Either way, follow up your adventure in the sky with a meal at the water’s edge at Navy Beach (16 Navy Rd., 631.668.6868). You’re invited to arrive by boat or by car, and the 200-foot private beach makes for a stunning backdrop to the menu of Local Clam and Corn Chowder with bacon, chives, and basil oil or Roasted Atlantic Swordfish with cucumber-ginger salad and citrus ponzu. Be sure to split a pitcher of Navy Grog (rum with grapefruit, orange, and pineapple) to toast your waterfront adventures.

A NIGHT OF NOSTALGIA Throw it all the way back with a sweetly nostalgic date  night that includes 18 holes at Hamptons Mini Golf (668 Country Rd. 39; 631.283.2158) and sweets at John’s Drive-In (677 Montauk Hwy., 631.668.5515). With obstacles that evoke famed Hamptons landmarks, including a lighthouse and, of course, the ol’ putt-putt staple of a windmill, this course will have you playfully challenging each other to make par while you wander among waterfalls from green to green. It’s just $15 per person, so even your wallet can pretend you’re back in high school!

Follow up your golfing excursion with a treat from John’s, famed for their house-made ice cream for more than 50 years. With flavors that range from Strawberry Oreo to Banana Fudge to Kahlua Chip, there’s something for everyone – including an extra- large Banana Split that just begs to be shared. And of course, if you’re still hungry, you can always add a burger and fries, but remember: life is uncertain (so eat dessert first!).

AN ELEGANT EVENINGWho says you can’t have a sophisticated downtown evening “down the shore”? With Hamptons outposts of so many Manhattan favorites, the refined evening of your dreams is available al fresco, too. Start with a classic cocktail (may we recommend a Manhattan, perhaps?) at The Palm East Hampton (94 Main St., 631.324.0411), where you can also nibble on House-Made Steak Fries with smoked sea salt, black pepper, garlic, and Sriracha aioli, just $12 during “Prime Time” from 5 ‘til 7 Sunday through Friday.

Don’t fill up, though, because there’s plenty to eat at Il Mulino New York (108 Wainscott Stone Rd., 631.658.9122), the newest outpost of the beloved Greenwich Village Italian institution. The Hamptons location debuted earlier this summer, and tables are already hard to come by, so be sure to book a reservation – then prepare to feast on Abruzzese favorites (and their legendary antipasti…trust us.) Instant classics include the peerlessly fresh Linguine di Mare, Fluke Carpaccio with baby arugula, pink peppercorns and Meyer lemon, and the Grilled Mixed Seafood for two, perfect for sharing on your cosmopolitan Hamptons date night.
