Meanwhile in Manhattan: Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Nacho Figueras’ East End Favorites

If you’ve missed your annual polo fix out East the past couple of years we suggest staying in the city the weekend of June 2 and spending your Saturday soaking in the sport of kings – right next to our queen, Lady Liberty. It’s time for the 11th Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.

Once again returning as host and sure to be match MVP is Nacho Figueras. The Argentinian and his wife, Delfina Blaquier, along with their four children spend a lot of time both in Manhattan and in the Hamptons. So, we wanted to find out some of his favorite ways and places to spend his time. Who knows, you might even bump into him enjoying a glass of Veuve somewhere. To better your chances, keep reading!

Favorite restaurant and meal you have there?

The Hamptons has so many restaurants that I love to visit while I am in the area, though one of my favorite places to eat is Pierre’s in Bridgehampton. My wife Delfina and I absolutely love the Croque Madame on the menu there. We order it every time!

Favorite place for a glass of Veuve?

We really enjoy visiting the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton for glass of Veuve Clicquot Rosé. Veuve Clicquot is celebrating the 200th anniversary of creating the first blended Rosé Champagne this year, so it’s a great place to enjoy a glass (or two) by their pool and toast to this exciting anniversary and of course, summertime in the Hamptons.

Favorite place and time of day to ride your horses?

In my opinion, anytime of the day is good for riding and the Hamptons offers many great places to ride and play polo. There are many private polo fields, though the Wainscot Polo Club at Two Trees Farm is one of my favorite places to play and ride.

Favorite store to shop at?

I don’t do a lot of shopping, but my wife Delfina always loves to stop by Marders or loves to walk around East Hampton. If I do need a new look for an upcoming event or dinner party, I like to stop by Ralph Lauren in East Hampton. They have great pieces that fit my style.

Favorite place to stay?

When my family and I spend time in the Hamptons during the summer, we typically rent a house in Sagaponack. We love having easy access to the beach and a quiet home away from home for ourselves. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the weather and each other’s company.

Favorite Hamptons’ polo event you played in?

The Hamptons have always been an excellent destination for a game of polo—besides Liberty State Park for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic of course! One of my favorite events I ever played here is the Hampton Polo Cup that benefits The Robin Hood Foundation.

Favorite farmers market?

My family and I really love all of the amazing farmer’s markets in the area. The Sag Harbor farmer’s market is the perfect place to pick up the fresh ingredients and local fare to cook a great meal at home.

Favorite place to watch the sun set?

The Hamptons always lends itself to providing the most beautiful sunsets, but while in town we always try to make it to Duryea’s in Montauk. They have a great atmosphere and the outdoor seating is the perfect front row seat to watch the sun set over the water. Plus, we love their lobster rolls!

Favorite place/way to stay fit?

When I am not playing polo, I really enjoy a long run around the streets of Sagaponack. I love to kick off the day with an early morning run before hitting the beach.

Favorite afternoon activity with your kids?

The best part about The Hamptons is definitely the beach. My wife, kids and I could spend the whole day playing together in the sand and ocean. The whole family also rides horses and most of us play polo, so that is often one of our favorite afternoon activities.
