As two classically trained dancers, Katie Warner and Caroline Gogolak are well acquainted with both the comforts and discomforts of wearing spandex. After the two graduated from Harvard they found themselves in the worlds of high-end fashion and celebrity fitness training before Carbon38’s founding in 2013. Since then, Katie and Caroline merged lifestyles and have aimed to deliver active-wear that blends fashion and function and suits the lives of modern day women. With a newly opened pop-up-shop in Bridgehamton, Gogolak gives us some insight into the brand and why it fits in so well in the Hamptons.
What makes Carbon38 a natural fit in Bridgehampton?
Bridgehampton is incredibly healthy with a number of fitness studios and healthy food options right around Main Street. We knew it was the perfect location given our customer and her daily routine out here in the summer.
In addition to being a retail location, The Beach House will also feature interactive elements and in-store events. What can we expect to see?
Yes, we have an iPad shopping station. If you can’t find your items at the Carbon38 Beach House, we offer two-day expedited shipping. We are doing a series of marketing activations with likeminded brands such as Adidas by Stella McCartney, Ivy Park, Spiritual Gangster, Sakara Life, Namaste NY, Hey Day and more.
Carbon38 searches for sportswear styles that can be taken beyond the gym. What elements do you primarily focus on when looking for pieces to curate the collection?
We love focusing on layering pieces that make leggings and active wear wearable outside of the gym. This includes elevated tops, cool bombers, anoraks and even dresses. We are actually working on a ready-to-wear meets active wear event for the summer. Stay tuned.
We are focusing on filling in the gaps and providing a wardrobe that will take our customer from 6am to 6pm and beyond. We combine true performance pieces with clothing that has the DNA of active wear but meets a ready-to-wear silhouette.
If we’re getting dressed for a morning class at Physique57 followed by brunch at Pierre’s before heading back to the city on the Jitney, what should we wear and how should we style it?
What three adjectives can be used to describe both the Hamptons lifestyle and the goals or mission of Carbon38?
Strong, elevated, empowered. It’s about recharging your mind and body to get ready for the week or the start of fall.
